"Gero Onsen is located in one of Japan's three most famous hot springs and is famous for its high-quality hot spring water and beautiful natural environment. I had a great experience staying at a traditional ryokan in Gero Onsen.
First of all, the hotel's architectural style combines traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern comfort facilities, making people feel a strong Japanese style as soon as they step in. The service staff at the hotel were very warm and friendly. They provided me with attentive service in fluent Japanese and some English, making me feel at home.
Next is the hot spring experience. The water of Gero Hot Spring is clear and rich in minerals, which has a good nourishing effect on the skin. I particularly like bathing in the open-air hot springs, especially at night. While enjoying the warm spring water and looking up at the stars, the feeling of tranquility and relaxation is indescribable.
Dinner is another highlight. The kaiseki cuisine provided by the hotel is exquisite and delicious. Each dish is a work of art. It is not only delicious in color, aroma and taste, but also has fresh ingredients, which fully demonstrates the charm of Japanese cuisine.
Overall, my stay at Gero Onsen was very good. I was deeply impressed by the hot springs, service and food. It was an unforgettable travel experience."
"Staying in a room with an open-air hot tub is full of mosquitoes, like a bathtub on the terrace, which is twice as expensive as an ordinary room, not too expensive. Breakfast and dinner are buffets, the food is ok, this season is for beef and pork hot pot. There is free parking. There are free massage chairs in the lobby."
"The location of the hotel is very partial, not in Gero, it is at Hida osaka station. It takes about half an hour by JR from Takayama to arrive. It is a very, very small platform. After getting off the train, there are no people in a radius of 10 kilometers. All shops are closed. If you don’t make it in advance Raiders will probably cry out at the station because of helplessness. We took the address and took the bus.
This is an original hot spring hotel with a century of history, full of human touch and warmth. Most of them are Japanese locals who come to soak in the hot springs by themselves. The hotel owner and staff do not speak English at all. They rely on the lame translation machine➕sign language to communicate. When entering the store, they will first make an appointment for the bath time, which is only 40 minutes. It seems that there is no need to make an appointment outside. For breakfast, all Japanese-style home cooking is exquisite and there are many types. After taking you to the room, Obasan was very polite. He felt sorry for us because the room was still cold. There were two hot water bottles in the bed.
Quanyuekan is named for the high concentration of carbonated springs. The two pools have a lower temperature inside and a higher temperature outside. There is hot spring water at the entrance of the male bath that you can drink directly. It is soda water. The mask paper is provided, you can go directly in to get the hot spring water to apply, or you can feel the bubbling under the bottom, and the skin will be slippery after soaking.
Inadequate: the location is really biased! Although the dinner and breakfast provided are very rich, it is inevitable that you will be lonely in this wilderness! You need to bring your own dry food! There are no other activities except bathing, the hotel is very, very quiet! Compare"
"Experienced the best satisfaction at a ryokan and not expensive price.
The building is old and old, but it was well maintained and clean, and unlike the appearance, the interior was quite spacious.
The owner's family were very friendly and provided the best service and meals.
The hot springs are small too, but the water is very good, clean.
It's a place I definitely want to visit again later.
Thank you! :)"
Nature resort Hida Kanayama a town of natural clear streams and river fish located in a corner of Gero Onsen Gifu Prefecture
In the summer of 2020 the minshuku guest house cafe Hanairokuri opened
The location is convenient for access to Gujo Gero Nakatsugawa Ena etc
You can enjoy a quiet private space
This is an inn where you can also enjoy experiencing nature
"This is a ryokan where you can really feel the retro sensibility of the Showa era! It may be a little inconvenient because it is an old facility, but
the owner and staff were all really kind,
and both dinner and breakfast were very sincere and delicious meals!^^
It is not big, but it is also advantageous that you can enjoy a 24-hour hot spring bath!
It was also really nice to walk around the hot spring village nearby!
I had a hard time because there was little information,
but I made a good choice!
I highly recommend it to those who want to experience a real Japanese ryokan rather than a sophisticated one!"
"It is a sister hotel with Fugaku next door. Before we even got to the door, the old man of the hotel came over to confirm whether we were staying. The names of the people matched. When we left, the old man was waiting for us at the door very early. When we went out for a walk, he also thoughtfully prepared a map for us. The service of the older generation of Japanese is really amazing. There is a special room for breakfast and dinner, which tastes good. There is a private bath in the room. Open the window to the outdoor private bath. Hehe, there are several hot springs upstairs and downstairs. My wife took a bath three times a day and soaked in all the hot springs. Gero is not big, so it is suitable for a leisurely stroll for half a day, eating some snacks, returning to the hotel to taste food, watch the snow, and take a bath."
"Мы остановились в традиционном японском номере с очень красивым видом на реку и на проезжающие поезда. Наш номер был старый, и в нем бы запах старой мебели. Спальные места были удобные. В номере было тихо. У нас бы выключен завтрак и обед. Это очень интересный опыт, но людям с проблемами с пищеварением нужно быть осторожнее слишком много разнообразных блюд. Не могу сказать что она сильно понравилась еда.
Сам горячий источник хороший, там есть ванна внутри и снаружи."
"Gero Hongyekan Wanboting is really great! In Japan's three famous springs, Geroizumi, the service is very good. There is an open-air bath on the roof of a sister hotel, and there is a car to pick up and drop off at any time from 9 to 12 in the evening, which is very convenient. The water quality is so good, the sun that soaks up the skin will slide down when it falls on it. A wonderful hotel experience! The beauty at the front desk drove me out to buy urgently needed products when I was in an emergency. Every detail was great. The Japanese-style room was also spacious. I really like this place. I will definitely go again if I have a chance, and I will definitely stay here again. hotel. Breakfast is included, and the environment and ceremony are very beautiful! The hotel itself has indoor and outdoor hot springs. When it snows, get up early in the morning to soak in that outdoor hot spring, which is quiet and beautiful! Its sister pavilion has a very strange inclined elevator, and the hot spring water is the smoothest I have ever soaked in."

Excellent
GGuest UserLovely onsen ryokan. Staff don’t really speak English so there’s a bit of trying to figure things out for yourself. Nevertheless, service was friendly and helpful as best they could. The outdoor onsen is really relaxing and because it’s not a crowded hotel, both times I went I had it to myself as did my wife and kids in the ladies area. We picked the room with its own outdoor onsen tub which is a great option if you don’t want to use the non-private ones. You can apparently book private onsens but they did not have any available for us (possibly because we arrived slightly late in the day). Food was excellent for both dinner and breakfast. Kids couldn’t;’quite enjoy the onsens cause they found the water too hot so you may want to make sure your kids can before you decided to splurge. One final point, the ryokan is located down a tiny road on the right just before Google Maps tells you that you have reached.
GGuest UserThe hotel has few rooms, but it is very clean, tidy and warm. The food is Japanese style and the ingredients are very fresh. The indoor and outdoor hot springs are on two different floors, which is not very convenient. The service is very good. When checking in, they will introduce the hotel facilities and some precautions for check-in. Every service staff is very enthusiastic. Alipay and UnionPay cards are not accepted for payment at check-out, and it is not very convenient to use cash.
SSarahstIt’s a large onsen hotel and close proximity to the station and shopping street. Everything is very organised arrangement for hot spring time, dinner and breakfast time. My family and I enjoyed those three different hot spring facilities very much. Hotel provided free shuttle bus for pick up and no reservation is required.
RRachotI recently stayed at this hotel and was thoroughly impressed. The service was exceptional, with staff going above and beyond to ensure a comfortable stay. The onsen was a highlight—clean, well-maintained, and incredibly relaxing. The accommodation was spacious, modern, and thoughtfully designed, offering a perfect blend of comfort and style. Highly recommended for those seeking a serene and luxurious experience!
獨獨木舟Although the hotel is relatively remote, there are dedicated staff to pick you up at the station, so you can book it even if you are not traveling by car. In addition, the service attitude of the staff is very good. The only drawback is that you need to go up and down the stairs, but if you don't have much/light luggage, it is still highly recommended!
CConstanceThis appears to be a family-run business with warm hearted hospitality. The hosts didn’t speak much English but we managed to use a digital translator to communicate.
Am grateful the hotel provides free shuttle pick up from Hida Osaka Train station. We had to get our previous hotel to ring Senyukan to inform them
about the expected timing of our train arrival. We appreciate the immense patience of the hotel shuttle driver. She put up with 2 changes of timing of our train arrival because of significant delays from the Highway bus from Nagoya to Takayama where we had to connect to Hida Osaka Train station.
We had booked to stay 3 nights and loved every moment of the stay. The kaiseki Hida Beef dinner had the perfect balance of sweet/sour/ salty taste. Each dinner also had a cooked fish either grilled, steamed or poached, in addition to sashimi ( raw seafood). The soup was exquisitely flavourful as was the freshly prepared salad and tempura ( deep fried vegetable fritters). All the food items were plated with pleasing artistry.
We had booked the hotel for its hotsprings which lived up to their therapeutic reputation. Although the sex-segregated pools were for hotel guests,
we found ourselves often the only ones who used them at the time. Highly recommend this hotel for its affordability and wonderful value-added hospitality.
The only downside of the hotel is that the wifi signal is not always stable in the guest rooms. But wifi is more accessible from the hotel lobby.
JJoyce**Hotel Review**
Unfortunately, my experience at this hot spring hotel did not meet expectations. The dinner service was particularly lacking. The food had already been set up in the room before we arrived, and the waiter offered minimal assistance, only asking if we had lit the fire. There was no explanation of the dishes, nor was a menu provided. To make matters worse, the necessary cutlery for different courses was repeatedly overlooked, which detracted from the overall dining experience. The food itself was unremarkable and didn’t compare to what other hot spring hotels typically offer.
The private onsen also posed a challenge. The water switch was broken, leaving no way to adjust the temperature or water flow, resulting in water that was uncomfortably hot throughout our stay. Breakfast the next morning was very basic and lacked the variety or creativity I’ve come to expect from similar establishments. Overall, the hotel did not live up to the standards I’ve experienced elsewhere and left much room for improvement.
GGuest UserThe hotel is a little far from Gero JR Station, about 15 minutes walk. There was a service staff at the door with a list to greet us. The hotel is retro in style. We were assigned an English-speaking butler. We ordered dinner and breakfast, and there are several time slots to choose from. All meals are served in the room. There are many dishes with their own characteristics. The Hida beef Xiabu for dinner is well received and the overall portion is sufficient. The butler is responsible for serving and introducing the dishes, and someone is responsible for making the bed after the meal. There is a large bathroom on the roof and an open-air hot spring in the old building downstairs. The latter allows the whole family to bathe for half an hour at their own time. The area is not large, and it can barely squeeze in 2 adults and 1 child, but it is a special flavor to soak in the open-air hot spring on a snowy day. Overall, I feel satisfied.
DDonovan_lIt was a comfortable, family-run Ryokan style inn. There is free parking for those who drive. It is also walking distance from the train station. We arrived after dark and the staff told us there was no more dinner, so they recommended us a dinner place nearby.
For breakfast which was included, it was a full set and really delicious Japanese platter. We ate to our heart’s content. The onsen is located on the basement and the 4th floor, I like it specially for the rooftop onsen. The men and women onsen will swap at certain timings to allow each gender to enjoy the facilities at the rooftop. They give clear instructions on a piece of paper, and you just need to look at the colour of the cloth hanging outside the onsen. The hotel is located near the town centre, so you can walk around easily.
